Beauty Tips to Follow While Stuck Indoors During Quarantine

I’ve had to postpone all of my upcoming beauty-related appointments until further notice for good reasons. Because of that, my bangs are growing out, my hair color is fading and my skin is looking dull.

Most salons and spas are closed right now, so we’re left to fend for ourselves, however, there are a few treatments and remedies you can easily do at home.

While you might not be in public as much, self-care should still be an important part of your day because it’ll help maintain a sense of normalcy and allow you to set aside “me time” to relax and decompress.

Here’s how you can stay fabulous while staying home!

Skin and Lips

Staying home has actually been beneficial to my skin because it’s given me more time to dedicate to a skincare routine. Indulge in your favorite skin treatments like masks and serums while you binge-watch Tiger King.

Body Hair

Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something about being freshly shaved and moisturized that gives me a feeling of luxury and relaxation.
If I don’t keep up with grooming my body hair of my face, legs, and everywhere else, I just don’t feel the same. Luckily, there are a ton of ways to keep up your grooming at home.
  • Maintain your routine of shaving and moisturizing on a regular basis. I have been loving the Flamingo shave gel because it seriously smells like heaven and makes my legs feel so soft after using it.
  • There are plenty of options for at-home wax kits and strips if waxing is more your thing. Make sure you practice caution when using hot wax, especially on sensitive areas of skin.
  • You can also tint and shape your brows at home. If the sheer idea of this scares you, don’t worry! We have a step-by-step tutorial on how to groom and tint your brows from the safety of your home.

Hair

I’m the kind of person who is willing to invest in a good cut and color regularly. If you’re like me, and you’ve spent a lot of time and money to maintain the perfect hairstyle, don’t jeopardize that by trying to make a quick fix cutting or dying your hair at home. Instead, focus on conditioning and pampering your locks until you can see your stylist again.
  • Use a hair mask in addition to your conditioner at least three times a week. Use the mask after shampoo, but still finish up with the conditioner step after the mask to lock in the goods, and leave your hair feeling softer. I recommend the It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask.
  • Refrain from using heat and try out some fun braids and updos instead. We put together this Pinterest board of super-easy braids you can try while at home.
  • If your color is fading, try out a color-enhancing conditioner like the Overtone Color Conditioner. These sorts of products will safely extend the life of your color until your next hair appointment.
  • If you're feeling self-conscious about your roots on zoom, we found the solution! Root touch up powder is quick and easy to apply. Some can even add a little extra volume to your hairstyle.

Nails

Maybe your gel polish is peeling or maybe you just want to deal with those dry cuticles. If you haven't already googled this, you're bound to soon enough. Don't worry, we already have it covered.
  • If you have acrylic nails you can check out this tutorial on how to remove them at home.
  • Gel nails are removed in a similar way to acrylics but require a little less effort. Here’s how.
  • Once your nails are polish-free protect them with some cuticle oil and a strengthening top-coat. My favorite it the Nail Tek Recovery Kit because it includes everything you need for healthier nails and it’s super affordable. After every handwash (since you’re doing a lot of that these days), commit to adding some cuticle oil to prevent overdrying
  • If you want to keep your nails painted, you can buy some OG nail polish or invest in an at-home gel nail kit. One option for these are the Le Mini Macaron kits which are adorable and affordable.
There are endless ways to maintain your looks at home, but we hope these ideas will inspire you to continue loving and caring for yourself on the inside and out during times of uncertainty and stress.
