The 5 Best Sweatproof Makeup Tips

Long days out and about in the summer heat can turn your makeup look from sassy to sweaty real quick. Check out these tips—and a setting powder tutorial from Pauline!—to help keep your makeup in place all-day and looking fab during the hottest season of the year.

1. Avoid rich creams

Just because summer is in session, doesn’t mean you should avoid moisturizers altogether! Swap out any thick, rich creams in your skincare regimen for a more lightweight, water-based moisturizer rather than an oil-based one. A water-based moisturizer that’s rich with hylauronic acid is a great way to keep your skin hydrated and happy rather than caked with oil and sweat that can clog your pores and cause breakouts.

2. Add a primer to your makeup routine

Whether you have oily skin, or it's a humid and sticky day, primers help absorb excess oil from the skin to protect your makeup from melting off throughout the day. After applying SPF to your face, apply a mattifying primer, allowing it to set into your skin before applying any makeup to your face. If you battle with dry or combination skin, opt for a dewy primer that will hydrate your skin and maintain a natural glow while keeping your makeup in check all day.

A staple in my makeup routine when the temperature is too hot to handle is an eye primer. Applying an eye primer before any eyeshadow application will keep it perfectly in check! You can even use Shine Control Powder in place of an eye primer—just add a few swipes before applying any eye makeup.

3. Set your look with some setting powder

Sometimes a little shine is inevitable, but setting powder is the perfect solution for a quick touch-up on-the-go. Our lightweight, vegan
Shine Control Powder is a game changer in case of a (sweaty) emergency! The translucent powder dabs away any excess oil without compromising the color or tone of your already applied makeup look, keeping it looking fresh as when you first applied!

4. Keep your coverage under control with a mattifying concealer or foundation

Matte foundation and concealer include key ingredients to keep your coverage in place all day. Matte products absorb oil to reduce shine and are long-lasting. If you’re looking for more full-coverage, opt for a matte foundation. For lighter coverage, use a lightweight, matte finish concealer like our vegan-friendly
Cream Concealer to spot-treat any blemishes, dark circles, or redness for an effortless look that will last.

5. Stay hydrated!

The most important yet underrated tip is to stay hydrated! Drinking water helps to cool your body down, and actually reduces sweating! Make sure you are drinking enough water each day. Divide your weight in half (by the pound) and that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day.
