hooded eyes eyeshadow tutorial you can't miss!

prepare to elevate your makeup game with these hooded eyeshadow tips

hey subtl beauties! today, we're diving into a makeup transformation inspired by none other than melissa murdoch, the renowned makeup artist behind selena gomez's iconic looks. if you've ever struggled with hooded or downturned eyes and are looking for ways to lift and elongate them, you're in the right place. follow along as we recreate one of murdoch's amazing tutorials, using some subtl beauty favorites to achieve that coveted eye-lifting effect.

why melissa murdoch?

what sets melissa apart in the glitzy world of celebrity makeup artists isn't just her skill but her approachability and her knack for demystifying makeup. her tutorials are a breath of fresh air for anyone looking for real, relatable beauty advice. plus, her tips are a godsend for those of us with hooded or downturned eyes, helping us achieve looks we might have thought were out of reach.

prepping the canvas

before we dive into the eyeshadow, let’s talk base. for this look, i've opted for a light foundation, specifically the nars light reflecting foundation in deauville, with a dab of supergoop glow screen as a primer. to conceal and brighten, i'm using subtl beauty's creamy concealer in shade 3n. its smooth blendability is a dream, especially for covering seasonal allergy puffiness or the occasional blemish.

sculpting and highlighting

a touch of bronzer adds warmth and definition. i’ve been experimenting with cream contour sticks followed by a dusting of powder bronzer for staying power and ease of blendability. for this, fenty's cream contour stick followed by subtl beauty's bronzer in shade leche does the trick beautifully.

introducing color to the cheeks

i reached for subtl beauty's lip and cheek in runway to rose. it's a stunning shade that adds just the right pop of color, whether you're applying it with fingers or a stippling brush.

eyes that mesmerize

now, for the main event: the eyes. melissa murdoch’s technique for hooded or downturned eyes involves starting with a neutral, matte base across the eyelid. i’ve improvised here with subtl beauty’s shine control powder for an even canvas. then, using a blend of matte and slightly shimmering shades, we create depth and dimension. the technique focuses on lifting the outer corners with strategic shadow placement, mimicking the effect of a cat-eye without the heaviness of eyeliner.

to achieve this, i layered shades from the subtl beauty duo eyeshadows, focusing on blending upwards and outwards to visually lift the eye. a key takeaway here is the importance of extending the eyeshadow higher than you might instinctively feel necessary, to ensure the color shows when looking straight ahead.

finishing touches

a thin black liner along the waterline and tight to the lash line on the outer half of the eye creates the illusion of a more lifted, open eye. topped off with a dab of mascara and a gloss on the lips, the look comes together beautifully.

reflections on the look

this tutorial not only taught me new techniques but also reminded me of the power of makeup to transform and uplift. the final look is one i’m truly proud of – it's dramatic yet sophisticated, perfectly showcasing the versatility of subtl beauty products. whether you're a makeup novice or a seasoned enthusiast, this approach offers something for everyone.

feel free to adjust the product mentions and steps according to your brand’s current offerings or specific techniques you want to highlight.
