How To Summer-Proof Your Makeup Routine

June 18, 2020 3 min read

As summer rolls in and the weather gets hotter, we have to take some extra steps to make sure our subtle glow doesn’t turn into a sweaty mess. You may not be able to keep your froyo from melting, but with these tips and tricks, your makeup won’t be! We’ve got the inside scoop on how to keep your makeup in check all summer long.

Use oil-free sunscreen

Opt for oil-free sunscreen

Whether you’re lounging by the pool or diving into some outdoor activities, SPF is meant to be your BFF. The number one misconception about sunscreen is that it is too heavy for your face or that it causes breakouts. Make sure you’re applying an oil-free, water-resistant sunscreen to your face (you’d be surprised how many are not!) for a lightweight base that lasts in and out of the water.

If SPF is a new concept to your makeup routine, check out our blog to learn why it is a summer-must!

Choose a matte concealer and foundation.

Choose a mattifying concealer and foundation

Whether you have oily skin or your summer plans have you breaking a sweat, matte foundation and concealer are key ingredients to keeping your makeup lookin’ fresh as a daisy. Matte products absorb oil to reduce shine, are long-lasting, and can be applied to all skin types (just be sure to look for one that’s specific to your skin needs). You can even go foundation free and opt for a lightweight, matte concealer in its place to skimp on the layers!

Our Picks:

Use waterproof mascara.

If it wasn’t for waterproof mascara, my summer look would probably resemble a raccoon realquick. From sweating in the sun to taking a dip in the water (or crying because you’re just so excited to hug your friends again), waterproof mascara keeps your lashes looking fab from dry to wet.

Our picks:

Use a setting spray

To seal in your look, spritz your face with a setting spray as the final touch. Opt for a mattifying setting spray during the summer to help keep your look in place all day long.

Subtl Beauty Shine Control Powder

Post-makeup shine control

We know that sometimes a little shine just can’t be fully prevented in the summertime. Having shine control powder or oil-absorbing face sheets handy is the perfect solution for a quick touch-up.

Our picks:

  • Subtl Beauty Shine Control Powder is always in our bag in case of an emergency. It’s translucent, lightweight, and removes unwanted shine without losing your summer glow! Gently sweep the powder across your face with an applicator (included with purchase!) or with a Stack Brush BFF and voila!

  • Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets are great for blotting that access oil away in a pinch and fit great in any bag or clutch. They’re super affordable, too!

See some oil splotches on your powder? Don’t toss it out! Check out our blog to learn an easy hack that will “set” your powder back into tip-top shape!
