Testing TikTok Makeup Hacks
Viral makeup hacks are everywhere. Some look genius, some look questionable, and all of them make big promises. Today, we're putting a few of the most popular hacks to the test with a full face of makeup to see what actually works and what you can skip.
Let’s get into it.
Hack #1: The Chevron Hack
This hack starts with applying your base makeup in a V or chevron shape using different tones for highlighting, blush, and contour.
I started with our lightest Concealer shade, 001C, placing it in a V shape on my forehead and under my eyes for brightness. I added a dab down the center of my nose and, even though the original hack skipped the chin, I added product there because I needed it.
Next came blush. I used Mauve in the Maldives Lip and Cheek and placed it underneath the concealer, lower than where I would normally apply blush. Then I went in with a deeper concealer shade, 012C, under the blush and across the forehead and chin to contour.
After stippling everything in with one of our new brushes and blending in the same V direction, I was honestly surprised. It worked. The skin looked sculpted, glowy, and really well blended.
Would I do this every day? Probably not. But for a fuller makeup look, it delivered.
Verdict: It works, but it is more effort than my usual routine.
Hack #2: The Dot-to-Dot Brow Mapping Hack
This brow hack promises sharp, angled brows by placing dots around the brow and connecting them.
Using the Brow BFF, I placed dots at the front, arch, tail, and bottom of the brow, then connected everything before filling it in lightly. In theory, it sounds foolproof. In practice, it was tough.
Getting the lines straight was harder than expected, and once everything was filled in, the brows felt too bold and structured for my face. After brushing them out, they looked better, but still not like me.
This hack worked beautifully for the creator, but on me, it just was not the vibe.
Verdict: Skip for my brows, but it could work for you depending on your brow shape and style.
Hack #3: Spoon Cut Crease Eyeshadow Hack
This one uses a spoon as a guide to create a cut crease and winged eyeshadow shape.
I used the matte side of our Jelly Eyeshadow Duo and placed the spoon along my inner corner, then blended outward. The spoon was cold, which was actually kind of nice. For the outer corner, I used the edge of the spoon to guide the wing.
For someone with hooded eyes like me, this was surprisingly helpful. The inner corner placement was especially good. The wing was not perfect, but that could have been the spoon itself.
I finished the look with the shimmer side of Jelly on the lid, and the final result was gorgeous.
Verdict: Definitely works as a guide, especially for cut creases.
Hack #4: The Heart-Shaped Lip Liner Hack
This hack claims to help you line your lips evenly by drawing a heart shape on the cupid’s bow and a U shape on the bottom lip.
I used Bordeaux on the Go Lip and Cheek so the shape would be easy to see. Drawing the heart with the Lip Brush on top actually helped a lot, especially since I usually struggle to make both sides even. The bottom U shape was just as helpful.
Once everything was connected, my lips were lined more evenly than they ever have been. I topped it off with Iconic Lip Glaze, and the final lip looked polished and balanced.
Verdict: A win. Especially if lip liner usually gives you trouble.
Final Thoughts
Not all viral makeup hacks are worth the hype, but a few of these genuinely surprised me.
My favorites were the V-shaped base hack for full glam days, the spoon cut crease for guidance, and the lip liner heart hack, which I will absolutely use again. The brow hack just was not for me, but that does not mean it will not work for someone else.
If there are any hacks you swear by or want me to test next, leave them in the comments. I will gladly take one for the team.
Until next time.
