8 Makeup Tips Everyone Should Know

It’s hard enough making time to do your makeup in the morning, let alone getting it to look good and last all day. Our team came together to highlight some of our favorite makeup tips and hacks that will elevate your routine.

A collage of beauty photos.

Makeup Hack #1: Calm puffy eyes with refrigerated eye cream.

If you often wake up puffy, we recommend keeping your eye cream in the fridge. The cool temp of the moisturizer will work double-duty to help reduce the inflammation while you apply your makeup.

Makeup Hack #2: Use powder and setting spray before foundation.

This tip is an absolute lifesaver for ladies who struggle with oily skin or large pores. Use a brush to dust a light layer of translucent powder like Shine Control all over your face before applying foundation. Then sprits on your favorite setting spray. Even if your skin is on the drier side, doing this will help keep your makeup in place all day by creating a smooth base.

Makeup Hack #3: Always do your eye makeup before your face makeup.

Whether you’re going full glam or just swiping on a shade from your Eyeshadow Duo, it’s always a good idea to do your eye makeup first. This way you can easily remove any eyeshadow fallout or rogue mascara without messing up your concealer and foundation.

Makeup Hack #4: Get fuller lashes by applying powder.

Using a small blending brush, carefully dab Shine Control powder onto your eyelashes before applying mascara. If you like to apply multiple coats, dab on a layer of powder between each. This will help prevent them from clumping together and give the appearance of thicker lashes.

Makeup Hack #5: Map out your brows before filling them.

If you haven’t already, check out our step-by-step lesson on brow mapping. Mapping out the arch and endpoints of your brows before you fill them will help create a natural look and prevent them from looking like they’ve been drawn on with a sharpie.

Makeup Hack #6: No eye primer? No problem.

The whole purpose of the eyeshadow primer is to create an even base for your shadow. A mattifying concealer is perfect as an eye primer because it evens and conceals at the same time. We recommend applying Cream Concealer to your lids with a delicate dabbing motion.

Makeup Hack #7: Use highlighter as an eye-brightening shadow.

We know that eyeshadow can be tricky, but that doesn’t mean you should completely go without. Instead, use your finger to swipe a layer of shimmery Highlighter onto your lids to give a multidimensional look.

Makeup Hack #8: Swab your lips with a Q-tip before applying color.

Your lips accumulate dead skin, traces of makeup, and other particles that can make your lip color look uneven. Use a Q-tip to gently clean your lips before applying your favorite Lip + Cheek shade.
