We’ve all had those moments when we thought our makeup looked on point, and then a few hours rolled by before even thinking about a touchup and... oof. This is where portable makeup really comes in handy. From creased makeup to dried out lipstick, there’s tons of reasons (okay needs) to reapply your makeup, but without the proper knowledge, your reapplication could do more harm than good. Follow along for easy tips and makeup hacks to keep your makeup lookin’ fresh as the spring daisy that you are.
Maintain oily buildup with Shine Control Powder
Whether your skin has extra shine due to warmer weather, your busy schedule, or just buildup after a long day, using a shine control powder is a great way to not only rid your skin of that excess shine and oil buildup, but it also keeps your face coverage in tact, too! We love Subtl Beauty’s Translucent Pressed Powder because it’s small and compact and we can take it with us anywhere for any makeup emergency! Once applying to your shiny spots, your makeup (and skin!) will look refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day.

Revive dull skin with a highlighter
Do you wake up with glowing skin that doesn’t seem to stick throughout the day? You’re not alone. Especially while wearing a mask, our skin can feel a bit suffocated, causing buildup and just a blah feeling. Using a highlighter is a great way to brighten up your skin when it’s feeling a little dull. Apply the highlight to your cheekbones and the ball of your nose for a natural looking glow. We recommend using a makeup brush like the portable Stack Brush BFF—an added bonus is it’s adjustable and comes with a lid to keep your brush protected from rolling around in your purse or makeup bag all day long!

Apply matte concealer to your makeup creases
We know, we know—your makeup looked flawless when you left the house, but now there’s visible creases around your eye makeup… trust us, we’ve been there. If you get creases around your under eye area or in the crease of your eyelid when applying eyeshadow, a swift trick is to apply a matte concealer to these areas to hold your makeup in place longer. Matte concealer can work just as well as a primer. Once you have your makeup in place, you don’t want to go back in with a primer (it may dry out your problem areas), so stick with a concealer that matches your skin tone. Hydrate your lips before reapplying your lip shade
Ahh, the infamous dry-lip curse we’ve all experienced. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone out for a wine night with the ladies and gone to the bathroom to check my makeup only to be shocked at how rough my lips looked (the things we do for wine). If this is you too, I’ve got a few great tips to try out! First, make sure your lip products are hydrating to some degree! Although a matte lip looks great, it’s important to have a balance so that your lips won’t be forever dried out. Second, sometimes, if the product you’re using is matte or just not very hydrating (or if you’re using a lip liner for full lip coverage), using either a lip balm or a few drops of almond oil will help to not only moisturize your lips, but feed them the nutrients they need to stay hydrated long after you reapplied your lip products! For added safety for those fun wine nights out, we’ve got a great tutorial on how to wine-proof your lips to keep your drink of choice from taking over your lip shade.

Mix moisturizer with your concealer or foundation to fix cakey spots
There’s only one type of “cake” we want in our face, and it’s not the one that has to do with our makeup. If you struggle with cakey looking makeup or buildup, we’ve got a great tip for you. Instead of taking a makeup wipe to the face and reapplying, hit your trouble areas with a 2-in-1 tinted moisturizer! Mix a drop of your moisturizer with your concealer or foundation until fully blended. Then, apply the mixture to the areas with noticeable buildup to smooth out your skin’s (and makeup’s) surface. You can use either a blending brush or your finger to lightly dab the areas until smoothed out.
