I Tried Bryce Dallas Howard’s Subtl Beauty Stack—Here’s How It Went
Hey friends! Keira here, and welcome back to the Subtl Beauty blog. Today I’m diving into a fun little beauty moment that had the internet buzzing—Bryce Dallas Howard using the Subtl Stack in her ASMR makeup video with InStyle. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend checking it out (I’ll link it at the end of this post!).
In the video, Bryce shares how she first discovered Subtl Beauty in the most serendipitous way—by sitting behind Rachel, our founder, on a plane! They didn’t even chat, but Bryce overheard her talking about Subtl and was intrigued enough to order the stak. And spoiler: she loved it.
She didn’t go through every product in the video, but I took note of the ones she used and decided to recreate her look with the same stack. It’s a bit of a departure from my everyday routine—she leaned into some richer, deeper tones that I don’t usually gravitate toward, but it was such a fun change!
Step 1: Concealer Combo
To start, I mixed shades 3N and 4N using the stippling brush from our 4-piece brush set. (Note to self: seriously need to wash these tonight!) This combo gives me a really nice balance and coverage without feeling heavy.
Step 2: Lip + Cheek in Guava Getaway
This shade is one of our deeper berry tones, and I can see why Bryce loves it—especially as someone with fair skin who appreciates high-contrast colors. I blended it in with both my fingers and the stippling brush for a natural flush. It’s such a pretty shade and honestly, I forgot how much I liked it!
Step 3: Rosé Cream Highlighter
Bryce is a fan of that dewy, glowing skin, and same here—especially when it’s hot (did I mention I live in the desert?). The Rosé cream highlighter adds a subtle sheen that catches the light beautifully without looking overdone. I also dabbed a little on the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them up.
Step 4: Shine Control Powder
This is where the shine control powder comes in clutch. I used it lightly across my T-zone using a fluffy brush. Pro tip: If you have dry skin, focus just on areas that tend to get shiny, like the forehead and nose. Bonus love for the dry brush cleaner in the bottom of the stack—truly a game-changer.
Step 5: Eyeshadow in Bon Voyage
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know this is my go-to Subtl eyeshadow duo. It might not look like much in the pan, but it seriously elevates the eyes. I applied the lighter shade all over and then used the deeper tone to add dimension in the crease and outer corners.
Step 6: Lip Glaze in Wild
Bryce finished her look with this bold, rich lip—and wow. Using the retractable lip brush, I layered it on for that smooth, high-impact finish. The brush gives you the precision of a lip liner and the ease of a gloss application in one.
Step 7: Bronzer in Latte
Although Bryce didn’t apply bronzer on camera, I know it was part of her stak—so I added it in. Latte gives such a natural warmth, and I even used the brush from the stak to do a quick nose contour for a little extra structure.
Step 8: Finishing Touches – Winged Liner + Mascara
Bryce’s signature winged liner added that final bit of flair to her look. I recreated it with a liquid liner—maybe not my best wing day, but it still pulled everything together. A coat of mascara, and voila!
Final Thoughts
This look was inspired by Bryce’s effortless glam and her genuine love for the Subtl Stak. I also loved how she emphasized how practical it is for moms and busy folks (seriously, she said she does most of her makeup in the car—same, Bryce, same). The built-in mirror and compact format make this my everyday go-to, especially now that I’m pregnant with baby #2 and constantly on the move.
Have you tried any of these products? What’s your go-to Subtl combo? Let me know in the comments!
