my 5 min makeup routine
hey guys, welcome back! today, we're going to tackle a common challenge – how to look more awake with just a quick five-minute makeup routine. as you can probably tell, i'm not feeling my best today. it's been a rough week – i'm under the weather, my baby's sick, and sleep has been scarce. but life doesn't stop, and sometimes you need a quick and easy makeup routine to face the day.
i'm keeping it real because i know many of you subtl customers are busy, on-the-go women and moms who need a fast and seamless routine. so today, i'll share some tips, including a few from when Pauline did this video for stak 1.0, plus my own tricks to help you look and feel more like yourself, even on tough days. let's jump right in!
start with skincare
first and foremost, skincare is a must – especially when you're not feeling your best. no matter what, cleanse and apply some lotion in the morning. this simple step can make you feel more awake. if your eyes are bloodshot, lumify eyedrops work wonders for a quick refresh.
today, i'll be using the subtl starter stak, containing the essential five products. but today i'm gonna start with a foundation, something i like to do especially when my skin isn't at its best. i like the nars light reflecting foundation, blending shades deauville and fiji for my current, slightly tanned complexion. i use a damp beauty blender to apply it evenly. we're aiming for a basic everyday makeup look to appear more alive.
the beauty blender is fantastic for a lighter application – remember, tapping lightly is key, especially when you're keeping it subtl. gently bring it down to your chin with the excess product for a seamless finish.
conceal and brighten
next up is concealer. opt for a lighter shade if you want to brighten your face. using a concealer shade that's too dark can make your dark circles look even darker and create a cakey appearance. i'll be using shade 003N, applying it with my finger to ensure it blends seamlessly with my skin. start from the inner corners, tap lightly, and blend outward – you'll instantly notice a difference. consider applying some on your lids to cover any discoloration.
bronzer = life
now that i look more awake, it's time to address the paleness. bronzer comes to the rescue! i'll use the bronzer included in the stak with the handy brush at the bottom. this brush is a game-changer, versatile for multiple uses. it's one of the reasons why the stak is perfect for on-the-go touch-ups.
for a little dimension and life, i'll also apply the bronzer as eyeshadow. i won't go too dark since the goal is to brighten the face. i'll focus on the crease and extend it slightly outward. remember, we want everything to go upward, not down.
when you're tired, avoid heavy eyeliner. instead, use a touch of bronzer underneath your eyes to frame them gently. this technique is perfect for achieving a more awake appearance.
add color to lips & cheeks
now, i'll grab the lip and cheek in the shade mauve in the maldives to infuse some color. this bright shade will liven things up. i'll apply it to the high cheekbone area, following the natural curve. bringing blush too far down can drag your face down, so keep it at the high point. you can even extend it slightly under your eyes to enhance the awakened look. i'll also add a touch to my nose for that sun-kissed appearance. finally, a bit on the lips adds color and vitality.
finish with powders
highlighter is next in line, applied with the same brush to maintain a consistent look. tap to remove excess product and apply it in a "C" shape, bringing light and radiance to your face. we're aiming to direct attention to the center, not downwards. a touch in the inner corner of the eyes contributes to a more awakened appearance.
since it's warm where i am, i'll address any shine with the shine control powder. using a puff, i'll apply it to areas that tend to get shiny – the corners, forehead, and sometimes the chin. this step locks in the look.
final touches
for more awake-looking eyes, i'll brush out my brows and add some color. if you have thick brows, you may skip this step. but for those with thinner brows like me, it helps. i aim for a feathery, natural look, swiping upward. lastly, i'll finish with lip balm for a touch of hydration.
there you have it – the final look to help you appear more awake and feel revitalized. i'm already feeling so much better. the stak is perfect for these days when you need a quick pick-me-up but don't want to drag out your entire makeup bag.
