Create a Work-From-Home Routine

When you’re working from home, it can be hard to get in a good rhythm. It’s easy to get distracted by your kids, pets, Netflix, etc. Creating a routine can help keep you on track and ensure you’re still getting all your work done. Go ahead and write it down or type it out to get a good overview of your work-from-home day.

This is what my work-from-home schedule looks like:

Early Morning

I am NOT a morning person so I make sure the beginning of my day is full of things to look forward to like a yummy breakfast and a refreshing getting ready routine.

  • Rise and shine
  • Wash face
  • Brush teeth
  • A little Subtl makeup, no need to glam it up at home
  • Eat some Greek yogurt with granola and make coffee using my french press

Mid-Morning

By this time, I’ve got some coffee in my system and I’m on a roll getting things done. I like to do the most important work now because I’m the most productive.

  • Plan my high and low priority tasks
  • Video call with the team
  • Knock out high-priority tasks
  • Take inventory of what still needs finished and prioritize those tasks

Afternoon

A midday break is important because it gives me a chance to step away from my work and come back to it with a fresh perspective. I like to have a light lunch and get active in some way during my lunch break.

  • Make a healthy lunch or order takeout from a local spot. I usually pack buddha bowls which are full of mood-boosting nutrients.
  • Take a 10-minute walk or stretch
  • Apply some essential oils to my wrists and take a few deep breaths

Late Afternoon

I tend to get a little sleepy after eating lunch so I leave the low priority or smaller tasks for this time.

  • Follow-up video call with the team
  • Read and respond to emails
  • Make a cup of coffee
  • Knock out low-priority tasks

End of Day

Before I finish out the workday, I like to go back over my to-do list to make sure all the most important tasks are done. After that, I set aside some time to decompress.

  • Make sure everything is checked off my to-do list
  • Write down tasks for the next day
  • Put on some music and relax

Continuing to maintain your personal hygiene, diet, and exercise regime is part of staying productive. Although it’s tempting to stay in your pajamas and work in bed, that’s not a sustainable or productive way to go about working from home. Try making a schedule for yourself, even if that’s just making sure you’re washing your face and getting dressed every day.

This is an example of what my to-do list looks like:
