Welcome to the Subtl Beauty Blog. I'm SB's resident Beauty Addict Writer, here to help share the knowledge I've gained through buying and trying every beauty product on the market.
Seriously though, there should be an AA for compulsive beauty buyers. I have a PROBLEM! The first step is admitting it though right? So I guess I'm on my way to recovery.
This obsession started at a very early age and I'm pretty sure it's genetic. My mom will try anything beauty related. There was a time, back in the day, where she would literally hoard self-tanner. She had so many different kinds that I started giving them to my friends when they would sleep over.
I was basically Oprah..
"YOU get a self-tanner and
YOU get a self-tanner."
When I was in middle school I had every scent of bath and body roll on glitter along with the matching spray and lotion. My cousin and I were in some kind of weird lotion competition.
College was when I really noticed I had a problem. I went to Virginia Tech located southwestern Virginia. The closest Sephora was over 2 hours away, but somehow I managed to keep my beauty fixation alive through CVS. It was connected to one of the libraries so I was in a constant struggle with temptation. The only positive was that when my parents asked me why I was spending so much money at CVS I could tell them it was on pencils and "study snacks". They had no idea it was on lashes and serums and hair products.
When I graduated the lady that worked the CVS counter cried and told me how much she was going to miss me...I can't make this stuff up.
After college, I really got in deep. I was thrilled to be in a city surrounded by Sephora's and Ulta's and nice department stores. I went a little wild. I was so happy to have a paycheck, I spent it all of it on replacing my drugstore brands with Dior and T3 hair products.
You name it I've tried it.
I've spent crazy amounts of money on things that work, and things that don't. My friends know this about me so they always consult me first before buying anything. I figured if they needed help, I'm sure there are others out there who could benefit from my addiction as well.
I am by no means a "beauty expert." I've have spent the past 5 years traveling all over the country and living out of a bag, so my area of expertise is is cutting through the beauty BS; knowing which products are worth carting across the country, and which eyeliner will last 12 hours dancing in the Miami heat.
I'd love to kick things off with a list of the 10 products that I can't travel without.
